Being Your Own Physical Therapist

When you come in for an appointment at Fine Tuned Performance, you will leave not only having having worked on your pain points but also with a list of exercises to complete between sessions. It can be easy to start off strong doing your exercises as often as you’re supposed to, but life sometimes seems to get in the way of recovery, and you might quickly find yourself back where you started before you know it.

We know you can’t come in for a visit every single day of the week (even though we wish we could see our patients that often!), so we provide you with a battery of exercises tailored to your ability, your pain point(s), and the equipment you have at home or at your gym. But the easy part is providing the exercises… it all comes down to completing them on your own, which gives you agency in your recovery! It’s something you can take pride in because you had a huge part in getting out of the rut you’re in.

This is one of our favorite things to do here at FTP: equipping you to be your own physical therapist.

Our philosophy is to help you feel better, move better, and perform better, and if we start from square one every visit, it’s hard to see improvement.

However, our patients who do their exercises as often as prescribed and come in on a consistent basis see the most results every time. Additionally, doing your exercises regularly allows you to see where you might need to tweak them— up the weight, lower the reps, etc.— so you know you’re improving and doing exactly what you need to be doing to get better. By doing your exercises regularly, you’re better equipped to discuss these things with your physical therapist.

And don’t worry if you can’t remember how to do some of your exercises— we have an online index we can provide to you with videos of our staff completing several of the exercises we often prescribe. If we don’t have yours in the index, we are just a phone call, a text, or an email away!

Again, we want to equip you to be your own physical therapist so that you can keep performing better even after your plan of care with us is over. Maybe your lower back pain is mostly gone, but it occasionally flares up during an intense workout. Now, you have a list of exercises you can quickly do before or after your workout so that you can stay out of pain.

Want to see what we’re all about? Book your initial evaluation with us today to get started. We can’t wait to meet you!
