Why Your VALD Numbers Matter
Since we started using our VALD equipment several months ago, we’ve used it in almost every session— from those working through a new injury to those who are with us for regular maintenance visits. When you complete a test, you’ll see your numbers on the screen, your physical therapist might point out things like asymmetry and peak force, and then they’ll explain what each metric they’re testing means specifically for your recovery. But why do the results really matter?
Your VALD numbers matter because they prove improvement.
When you start a plan of care at FTP, typically your physical therapist will run a number of relevant VALD tests, explain your results and their implications, and then shape the rest of your sessions around those results and your goals. Throughout your plan of care— regardless of the length— you will be consistently tested, and the goal is to see improvement in the metrics you started with. On our end, this is important for two reasons: one, because we can get to the root of the problem quicker if we know where exactly the problem lies; two, it helps us accomplish our mission of taking all of our patients to the Perform Better stage efficiently and effectively. Quite simply, when we can focus on a specific issue, we can solve it quicker.
By the end of your plan of care, the goal is a graph with a positive trend, which shows without a doubt that the physical therapy you’ve been doing has been worth it.
Because our goal here is to get you to a place where you’re performing at your best (and getting better), we also use VALD to track toward a goal. Want to increase your grip strength, for example? As you work toward that goal with exercise, each time you come in and test, you’ll get to see how much progress you’ve made. And with the MoveHealth app, all of your results automatically populate on your account, and you’ll be able to see a trend over time as you’re working toward your goals.
VALD— like us here at FTP— is goal-oriented and performance-focused. We’re the perfect team!
